Visibility and present weather sensor for operational monitoring, measuring MOR/EXCO from 10 m to 20 km (selectable up to 99.99 km) with WMO Table 4680 codes, plus RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 and optional ALS-2 or analog/relay boards.

Introduction

Keep runway operations, road networks, and wind farms informed with reliable visibility and present weather data from a compact forward-scatter sensor with an additional backscatter receiver. The combined measurement supports clearer separation of liquid and frozen precipitation, so present weather reporting stays dependable when conditions change.
 
Visibility (Meteorological Optical Range) outputs cover a standard 10 m to 20 km range, with a user-selectable maximum up to 99.99 km and 1 m or 10 m resolution. You can output MOR or extinction coefficient (EXCO) and enable WMO Table 4680 present weather codes, including precipitation type and intensity.
 
Integration stays flexible: serial communication (RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485) is standard, with an option board slot for ALS-2 ambient light sensor interface for RVR messaging, or for analog outputs and volt-free relays. Built-in self-test, diagnostics, and window contamination monitoring with automatic compensation help reduce maintenance effort across long deployments.

Reports instantaneous and averaged MOR and can output extinction coefficient (EXCO) and WMO Table 4680 present weather codes.

Forward and backscatter optics

Uses forward-scattered and backscattered IR light and analyzes signal strength, duration, and ratio for visibility and precipitation discrimination.

Serial communication

Provides standard serial output with RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 interfaces.

Option board slot

Supports no option board (serial only), ALS-2 interface for appended ambient light data, or analogues and relays interface.

Self-test and diagnostics

Includes self-test and contamination status in every data message, plus detailed diagnostics and functional test mode.

Window contamination monitoring

Monitors window contamination and applies automatic compensation; transmitter window monitoring is standard.

Heater configuration

Window heaters are fitted as standard; hood heaters are optional and can be powered separately.
