Reliable visibility data is essential for aviation, weather stations and fixed monitoring sites where changing conditions affect operational decisions. SWS-050 uses forward scatter technology to measure Meteorological Optical Range (MOR) and Extinction Coefficient (EXCO) over a fixed 10 m to 40 km range, with performance comparable to a transmissometer.
The sensor is calibrated in accordance with ICAO 9328 and traceable to a national weather service transmissometer. Its measurement performance, accuracy and resolution comply with ICAO and WMO specifications for aviation and RVR use, and it can be paired with the ALS-2 Ambient Light Sensor for instrumented Runway Visual Range systems.
Outdoor reliability is supported by standard hood heating, window heaters and contamination monitoring on transmitter and receiver windows. Automatic correction and two-stage cleaning warnings help plan maintenance efficiently. Serial outputs via RS232, RS422 or RS485 provide ASCII data at selectable 10 to 300 s intervals or on request, with optional relay outputs for fault and threshold signaling.
Uses a forward scatter meter with 39° to 51° angle, centered at 45°, to measure visibility.
Reports 3 WMO 4680 obstruction-to-vision codes, including no significant weather, haze or smoke, and fog.
Optional ALS-2 Ambient Light Sensor interface appends ambient light data to the SWS-050 message
Hood heating is fitted for extreme environments, with window heaters fitted as standard.
Abbreviated self-test information is included in every message, with full self-test report available on request.
Powder coated aluminum housing with IP66/IP67 protection operates from -40 °C to +60 °C and 0...100% RH.
