Ex universal transmitter

MU500EX

Ex universal transmitter for intrinsically safe Pt100 or Pt1000 RTD signal conversion, with switch-selectable ranges, 0/4..20 mA and 0/2..10 V outputs, 3-port isolation and 22.5 mm DIN rail housing.

Introduction

RTD signals from hazardous areas need safe input separation and dependable conversion before they reach the control system. This Ex universal transmitter offers an intrinsically safe input for Pt100 or Pt1000 sensors and converts the signal into industry-standard current and voltage outputs.

The MU500Ex provides switch-selectable measuring ranges, with 13 ranges for Pt100 and 16 ranges for Pt1000. Measuring range and output signal are configured using front-mounted rotary and DIP switches. Start value and span are adjustable, supporting adaptation to the application and compensation for 2-wire connection or errors.

Full 3-port isolation separates input, output and supply voltage. The intrinsically safe input is marked II (1) G [Ex ia Ga] IIC or II (1) D [Ex ia Da] IIIC, with TÜV 03 ATEX 2283 approval. Output options include 0/4..20 mA and 0/2..10 V DC, with sensor error driving the output to the maximum value.

Features

RTD input versions

Device versions are available for Pt100 with 13 measuring ranges or Pt1000 with 16 measuring ranges.

Intrinsically safe input

The input is designed for RTD sensors from hazardous areas and is galvanically separated from non-intrinsically safe circuits.

Switch-selectable configuration

Measuring range and output signal are selected with front-mounted rotary and DIP switches.

Analog outputs

Current output can be set to 0..20 mA or 4..20 mA. Voltage output can be set to 0..10 V DC or 2..10 V DC.

Sensor connection

The input supports 2-wire and 3-wire RTD connection. In 3-wire connection, cable resistance is compensated automatically

Start and span adjustment

Start value and span can be adjusted on the device for application matching or compensation tasks.

Fault behavior

If the sensor line is broken or shorted, the output rises to the maximum output value.

DIN rail housing

The 22.5 mm polycarbonate housing mounts on TS35/TH35 DIN rail and uses screw terminals with pressure plates.
