Optical level switch for liquids

ELECTRA SLO

Optical level sensor for liquid level control, also in small tanks and translucent colored liquids. It uses an infrared transceiver in a polysulfone prism, push pull output, IP65/IP67 connection options and pressure up to 260 bar.

Introduction

Compact tanks and side-mounted installations need a level sensor that reacts cleanly without adding mechanical wear points. This optical level sensor detects liquid presence through a polysulfone prism with an integrated infrared transceiver, making it well suited to level control in translucent liquids, including colored liquids.

The sensing principle is simple and dependable. As the prism is immersed, its refraction index changes and disperses a large part of the infrared beam in the liquid, causing the output to change state. With no moving parts, hermetic construction and sealed electronics, the sensor is designed for reliable operation in industrial liquid level applications.

Process integration is supported by a 15 – 35 Vcc supply, push pull output and DIN 43650 IP65 or M12x1 4-pole IP67 electrical connection options. The sensor is available with brass or AISI-316 body material and operates at pressures up to 260 bar at 25°C or 200 bar at 85°C.

Features

Optical sensing principle

The sensor uses a polysulfone prism with an infrared transceiver. Immersion changes the prism refraction index and switches the output state.

Liquid application

The SLO series is suitable for level control of liquids and is particularly suited to side-mounted control of translucent liquids, including colored liquids.

Electrical configuration

The sensor operates with 15 – 35 Vcc power supply and 10 mA current consumption. It provides a push pull output with a maximum load of 3 W.

Connection options

Electrical connection is available as DIN 43650 IP65 connector or M12x1 4-pole IP67 plug.

Body and seal materials

Body materials include brass and AISI-316. Flat gasket materials include NBR and Viton, and the sensor prism lens is polysulfone.

Process connection

Male thread connection options include 3/8" and 1/2", with Gas UNI 228/1 thread and NPT on request.
