Class B albedometer for solar reflectance and net radiation

LPS05

Albedometer for solar reflectance and net radiation, measuring incident and reflected solar radiation from 200…4000 W/m2. Spectrally Flat Class B with passive mV output, IP 67 protection and integrated bubble level.

Introduction

Understanding surface reflectance calls for two measurements at the same point: incoming solar radiation and radiation reflected from the ground. This albedometer combines two thermopile pyranometers, one facing upward and one downward, to determine albedo and net solar radiation in climatology, Automatic Weather Stations, agriculture and environmental research.

The Class B configuration follows ISO 9060:2018 and meets WMO recommendations. A 200…4000 W/m2 measuring range, 283…2800 nm spectral range and factory calibration according to ISO 9847:2023 support dependable solar radiation data for long-term observation.

Operation stays simple in the field. The passive mV output needs no power supply, while two 5-pole M12 connectors support direct connection to a data logger or automatic data processor. IP 67 protection, anodized aluminum housing, ASA screen and optical glass domes help protect the instrument outdoors, and the integrated bubble level supports accurate horizontal installation.

Features

Dual pyranometer design

The albedometer uses one upward-facing pyranometer for global solar radiation and one downward-facing pyranometer for reflected solar radiation.

Thermopile sensors

Both pyranometers are based on thermopile sensors with black matt coated sensitive surfaces and passive mV output.

M12 connections

The instrument provides two 5-pole M12 connectors for the independent signals from the upper and lower pyranometers.

Passive measurement

The albedometer does not require a power supply. Irradiance is calculated from the measured voltage and the sensitivity stated on the label and calibration report.

Installation support

The support rod is fixed to a vertical mast using a cross clamp. An integrated bubble level supports horizontal positioning.

Maintenance design

Silica-gel inside the pyranometer bases helps absorb moisture, and the outer glass domes can be cleaned with water and standard lens paper.
