2-axis ultrasonic anemometer for low-speed wind measurement

HD53LS

Ultrasonic anemometer for low-speed wind measurement up to 50 m/s, with wind direction, U-V components, integrated compass, 2 analog outputs or RS485 Modbus-RTU and 26 mA power consumption.

Introduction

Low wind speed measurement needs sensitivity without mechanical wear. HD53LS uses 2-axis ultrasonic technology to measure wind speed, wind direction and U-V Cartesian wind components, making it well suited to weather stations, environmental monitoring, agriculture, sports facilities, marine and harbour sites, HVAC, renewable energy and building automation.

The static measuring principle has no moving parts, reducing routine maintenance and supporting long-term reliability in remote installations. A built-in magnetic compass automatically refers wind speed and direction to magnetic North, simplifying alignment and supporting mobile use where the instrument position can change.

The series gives system designers a clear choice of outputs. Analog models provide two outputs for wind speed and direction, with 4…20 mA, 0…1 V, 0…5 V or 0…10 V depending on version. HD53LS.S adds RS485 Modbus-RTU communication and Wind Gust measurement, while the averaging interval for wind speed and direction is configurable from 1 s to 10 min.

Low-speed sensitivity
Ultrasonic sensing detects wind from 0…50 m/s with 0.01 m/s resolution.
Reduced maintenance
No moving parts and factory calibration reduce routine service needs.
Remote-site ready
26 mA power consumption supports installations with solar panel and battery.
Compass included
Magnetic compass references wind direction and helps simplify alignment.

Features

Measured wind values

The series measures wind speed, wind direction and U-V Cartesian wind components. HD53LS.S also provides Wind Gust measurement via Modbus-RTU.

Analog output models

HD53LS.A and HD53LS.V versions provide two analog outputs, one for wind speed and one for wind direction, with 1 Hz refresh rate.

Digital communication

HD53LS.S uses RS485 Modbus-RTU output with configurable address, baud rate, parity and stop bits.

Averaging interval

Average wind speed and direction are calculated over a configurable interval from 1 s to 10 min.

Mast installation

The anemometer mounts on a mast with 40 mm maximum outer diameter and 36 mm minimum inner diameter, using a 19-pole M23 connector.

Housing materials

The case is ASA with AISI 316 metal parts, IP66 protection and 90 m/s survival speed.
