PC-based work with GMH 5xxx handheld instruments becomes easier when communication and power run through one compact USB adapter. This interface converter family links the instrument to a standard USB type A port and provides an isolated serial interface, creating an additional COM port for use with compatible software.
During connected operation, the adapter also supplies the handheld instrument via an isolated ~5 VDC power supply after PC initialization. That keeps the setup compact, with USB power from the PC, a direct 4-pole bayonet connection to the GMH 5xxx and cable lengths of approx. 30 cm on the USB side and approx. 1 m on the instrument side.
The family covers two variants for different connection needs. USB 5100 focuses on USB communication and instrument power, while USB 5200 adds a 2-pole screw/plug terminal for the analog output of GMH 5xxx devices with analog output function. Both variants operate from 0 ... +50 °C and meet EMC Directive 2014/30/EU and RoHS 2011/65/EU.
The PC side uses a standard USB plug connector type A. The instrument side uses a 4-pole bayonet connector for direct connection of a GMH 5xxx device.
The adapter implements an isolated serial interface. After installation, the PC provides an additional COM port for compatible software.
The adapter receives power via the USB interface and provides an isolated ~5 VDC supply for the handheld instrument after successful PC initialization.
USB 5200 includes a 2-pole socket for screw/plug terminal RM 3.81 for the analog output of GMH 5xxx devices with analog output function.
The Windows Device Manager shows the adapter as CP210x USB to UART Bridge Controller and allows COM port changes under port settings.
