Level measurement in tanks, channels and process vessels becomes easier to manage when the sensor does not need contact with the medium. Radarcont® RP4IR measures distance, level and volume in liquid media using a freely radiating 122...123 GHz FMCW radar signal, with measuring ranges from 0 ... 10 m.
The narrow 10° beam angle helps reduce interference from internal fittings or foreign objects, supporting stable measurement where optical or ultrasonic sensors can be affected by temperature, gas stratification, pressure conditions, vacuum, dust, wind or light. The sensor is also suited to liquid measurement with gas stratification or foam, and can measure through suitable container walls or protection windows such as PTFE or PP.
For industrial integration, the slim M12 design combines ingress protection (IP65/IP67), integrated overvoltage protection and temperature compensation. Depending on the version, the sensor provides IO-Link with 0/4...20mA and switching outputs or RS485 Modbus-RTU communication.
The sensor uses a pulsed 122...123 GHz FMCW radar signal to determine distance from the reflected signal delay and frequency shift.
The measured distance to a detectable liquid surface can be converted into level or volume values and linearized where required.
The electronics function can include temperature measurement for the range -20 °C...+70 °C (-4 °F...+158 °F).
Available electronics outputs include RS485 Modbus-RTU, 4-wire, or IO-Link® with 0/4...20 mA current output and 1x/2x PP switching outputs.
The industrial version uses an M12-A-4P plug connector for electrical connection.
Parameterization of the integrated evaluation electronics is possible via the SmartConnect App for Android / iOS or through the wired interface.
