Particulate matter transmitter for outdoor air quality

PMsense

Particulate matter transmitter for outdoor air quality, measuring PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10 from 0…1000 µg/m3 with laser scattering, RS485 Modbus-RTU and optional analog outputs.

Introduction

Outdoor air quality monitoring needs fast, dependable particle data that can be integrated into existing measurement networks. This particulate matter transmitter measures PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations using the laser scattering principle, making it suitable for smart cities, municipalities, road controls and environmental studies.

Flexible operation helps match measurement performance to the monitoring task. The measuring circuit can run continuously for uninterrupted data collection or in user-configurable cyclic intervals to extend PM sensor lifetime. In the default 5 minutes cyclic mode, the sensor lifetime is approximately 5 years; in continuous mode, it is more than 10,000 hours at 1 meas./s.

System integration is straightforward via RS485 with Modbus-RTU or ASCII proprietary protocol. Versions with two additional 0/4…20 mA or 0…10 V analog outputs allow independent assignment to measured parameters, while the polycarbonate housing with rain-proof and UV resistant inlet air filter supports outdoor use with IP 53 protection.

Features

Laser scattering principle

The transmitter measures dust particle concentration in air using laser scattering technology.

Particulate matter parameters

PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10 are measured across the same 0…1000 µg/m3 range for each pollutant.

Operating modes

The measuring circuit operates continuously or at cyclic intervals. The cycle interval is user-configurable.

Measurement averaging

PM measurements are available as averages over 10 seconds, 60 seconds or 15 minutes, with defined update intervals.

Analog output variants

Versions are available with two additional 0/4…20 mA or 0…10 V analog outputs, each independently assignable.

Mounting and connection

The transmitter uses an M12 8-pole circular connector and includes a bracket with U-bolt for mast mounting.
