Class A pyranometer with shadow ring for diffuse solar irradiance

LPS13

Pyranometer with shadow ring for diffuse solar irradiance, measuring 200…4000 W/m2 across 283…2800 nm. Spectrally Flat Class A with model-dependent Modbus, analog or mV output and IP 67 protection.

Introduction

Diffuse solar irradiance is critical for understanding cloud cover, atmospheric transparency and the energy balance at a measurement site. This series combines a Spectrally Flat Class A pyranometer with an adjustable shadow ring, which blocks direct solar radiation so the sensor measures diffuse irradiance on a flat surface.

The thermopile sensor covers 200…4000 W/m2 and a 283…2800 nm spectral range. ISO 9060:2018 Class A performance, WMO compliance and factory calibration according to ISO 9847:2023 support high-quality data for weather forecasting, climate modeling, solar energy assessment and environmental research.

Installation is designed for precise field alignment. The shadow ring, goniometer, adjustable feet and integrated bubble level support correct positioning, while IP 67 protection and durable ring and stand materials help protect the structure outdoors. Depending on the model, outputs include RS485 Modbus-RTU, configurable analog, 2-wire 4…20 mA or passive mV.

Features

Shadow ring assembly

The adjustable shadow ring blocks direct solar radiation from reaching the sensor throughout the day, allowing diffuse irradiance measurement.

Thermopile sensor

The pyranometer uses a thermopile sensor with a black matt coated sensitive surface and internal compensation circuit.

Positioning system

The stand includes a shadow ring, graduated sliding bars, goniometer, adjustable feet and integrated bubble level for alignment and leveling.

Digital diagnostics

LPS13Mxx models include internal temperature, relative humidity and pressure sensors. Tilt monitoring is available on models with option T.

Configurable analog output

LPS13MAx models provide 4…20 mA by default, with 0…20 mA, 0…1 V, 0…5 V or 0…10 V alternatives via DATAsense software.

Measurement correction

Correction factors are applied to measured diffuse irradiance because the shadow ring also intercepts part of the diffuse radiation.
