Tapping machine for floor impact sound insulation measurements in buildings according to ISO 10140-5:2021, EN ISO 16283-2:2020, EN ISO 717-2:2020, ISO 10140-3:2021, ISO 10140-4:2021, ASTM E492 and ASTM E1007.

Introduction

Floor sound insulation tests need a repeatable impact source that behaves consistently across rooms, floors and measurement positions. With 5 x 500 +/- 12 g hardened stainless steel hammers, 40 mm fall height, 100 +\- 5 ms average tapping interval, remote control and internal lithium-ion battery or 100-240 Vac operation, HD2040 generates normalized impact noise for floor testing. 
The electronic control system constantly monitors hammer fall rate and impact frequency, while front-panel LEDs show whether each hammer is operating correctly, giving acoustic engineers a controlled source for reliable building acoustics work.
On site, the machine is designed for light and practical handling. HD2040 starts locally or by remote control, and uses a spirit level, height reference spacer and height-adjustable feet to support correct positioning before each measurement.

Five-hammer mechanism

HD2040 is a high-performance, standardized impact noise generator desighed to test floor sound insulation with maximum accuracy and efficiency. Equipped with five inline stainless steel hammers driven by a motor-controlled camshaft system, it ensures precise and compliant impact frequency-continuously monitored and controlled electronically.

Construction

The five in line hammers spaced 100 +/- 3 mm are made of hardened stainless steel and have a 30 +\- 0.2 mm diameter head with a spherical impact surface with radius of curvature 500 ± 100 mm

Local and remote control

The motor starts and stops from the front panel button or by remote control operating at 869.525 MHz (915MHz on request).

Hammer falling velocity monitor

The HD2040 incorporates an automatic self-monitoring system that continuously verifies operating parameters to ensure compliance with applicable tapping machine standards. Each hammer is equipped with an integrated laser sensor for real-time measurement of impact velocity, providing precise control of the delivered impact energy while detecting friction, wear, or mechanical misalignment. Dedicated LED indicators on the front panel provide immediate status verification for each hammer, confirming that both impact velocity and tapping frequency remain within the specified tolerance limits. Continuous diagnostics ensure repeatable, standards-compliant operation and reliable performance throughout the measurement process.

Transport-oriented design

The HD2040 was also designed with portability and field use in mind. Its weight has been minimized by using lightweight materials such as aluminum wherever possible. The feet fold under the base to reduce the machine’s footprint during transport, and the antenna can be removed.
