Accurate precipitation monitoring becomes harder when wind, snow or ice can disturb the measurement. HD2016 measures collected rainfall by weight, using a load cell beneath a 400 cm2 reservoir to provide total rainfall, partial rainfall and average rainfall rate for the last minute or last hour.
Designed for long-term outdoor monitoring, the rain gauge combines corrosion resistant materials with a compact structure and no moving parts in the measuring principle. Automatic discharge of the 3000 cc reservoir enables continuous measurement, while a retention valve holds incoming rainfall during discharge to help avoid data loss.
Integration is flexible across environmental monitoring systems. HD2016 supports RS485 with Modbus-RTU or ASCII proprietary protocol, SDI-12 and an isolated voltage-free pulse contact output. The heated HD2016R version operates from -20…+70 °C and activates heating below +4 °C to help prevent snow deposits and ice formation.
The rain gauge provides total rainfall, partial rainfall from the last reset or reading command, average rainfall rate for the last minute and last hour, and internal temperature.
RS485 communication supports Modbus-RTU or ASCII proprietary protocol. SDI-12 is also available and complies with version 1.3 of the protocol.
The isolated normally open contact simulates a tipping bucket rain gauge and generates pulse trains at 1 minute intervals based on rainfall measured in the previous minute.
Measured rainfall is regularly saved into non-volatile memory, which retains information in case of power failure.
The instrument is supplied for ground installation with three height-adjustable support feet. Raised installation is possible using the optional ACCR003 support and a mast.
A self-diagnostic system periodically checks correct operation and reports anomalies.
