Omnidirectional hotwire probe for thermal comfort analysis

AP3203

Omnidirectional hotwire probe for thermal comfort analysis measures air speed 0.02...5 m/s with 0.01 m/s resolution, with temperature ranges of 0...+80 °C or -30...+30 °C and an Ø8 mm, 230 mm probe stem.

Introduction

Thermal comfort analysis needs reliable capture of very low air movement, especially where draught or turbulence affects comfort. The AP3203 family measures air speed from 0.02...5 m/s with 0.01 m/s resolution, supporting detailed assessment in indoor climate and microclimate applications.

The family covers standard and cold environment use, with 0...+80 °C versions for AP3203 and AP3203.2, and a -30...+30 °C version for AP3203F. The omnidirectional hotwire design reduces the need for exact flow alignment, while the Ø8 mm, 230 mm probe stem and Ø100 mm protection dimensions support practical positioning in thermal comfort measurement setups.

Used with compatible thermal comfort data loggers, the probes support index calculations such as PMV, PPD, DR and TU, with AP3203F also supporting IREQ, DLE, RT and WCI. AP3203 and AP3203.2 use an NTC 10 kΩ sensor and offer stated long-term stability of 0.12 °C/year.

Features

Omnidirectional hotwire measurement

The probe measures air speed without directional alignment, using a hotwire principle for thermal comfort applications.

Temperature range variants

AP3203 and AP3203.2 cover 0...+80 °C, while AP3203F covers -30...+30 °C for cold environment measurements.

Sensor and stability

AP3203 and AP3203.2 use an NTC 10 kΩ sensor, with temperature drift of 0.06 %/°C @ 20 °C and long-term stability of 0.12 °C/year.

Probe dimensions

The probe stem has a diameter of Ø8 mm and a length of 230 mm. The protection dimensions are Ø100 mm.

Connection

The AP3203 family uses an 8-pole female DIN45326 connector. AP3203 and AP3203F feature a 2 m cable.

Thermal comfort indices

In combination with compatible data loggers, the probes are used for calculating comfort indices including PMV, PPD, DR and TU.

Cold environment indices

AP3203F is used with HD32.1 for indices including IREQ, DLE, RT and WCI in cold environment analysis.

Calibration option

An ISO 17025 calibration certificate for air speed is available on request for the range 0.15 - 5 m/s.
